Master Naturalists are invited to join the Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Project on iNaturalist and participate in the Annual Meeting Bioblitz (2 weeks only).
What is a bioblitz? An intense effort to catalog all life in a given area within a limited timeframe.
Purpose: Prior to our Annual Meeting, we are asking your help to collect observations of plant and animal life in the nearby nature that surrounds you within Pennsylvania. Typically, this is an under documented time of year with lower iNaturalist or community science observations. It is important to continue to document life in nature throughout the year especially in a changing climate that influences the phenology of plant and animal life.
The Annual Meeting Bioblitz begins Thursday, October 23rd at midnight and continues through Thursday, November 6th at 11:59 p.m.
All observations for the Bioblitz must be uploaded to the PMN iNaturalist project no later than Thursday, November 6th, at 11:59pm. Our iNat team leader will analyze data collected during the bioblitz on Friday, November 7th and create a report to share at our Annual Meeting. We will recognize members who collect the highest total number of observations by individual and county chapter as well as share unique observations.
Participants must be a PA Master Naturalist and need to join the PA Master Naturalist iNaturalist Project. You can request to join by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.
Note: If you participated in the bioblitz last year or are already a member of the PA Master Naturalist iNat project, you do not have to request to join again.
For more information on how to use iNaturalist and how to upload your observations to the PMN iNat project, please refer to the video below to prepare.
